Zagreb, March 4, 2025 – At the Geothermal Investment Forum Croatia held today in Zagreb, Ivana Ivančić, Director of ENNA Geo, proudly announced the successful production testing of the PSGT-6β development well in the municipality of Čađavica, confirming the significant geothermal potential of the Slatina 2 exploitation field. This is where the future GTE Zagocha will be developed. The well, the deepest geothermal well in Croatia, reached a depth of 4,582 meters, where ENNA Geo discovered water suitable for electricity generation.
Exploration of development wells is a long, extremely costly and often uncertain process. Ivančić emphasized that there are few investors in Croatia capable of financing such large-scale projects, making it crucial for the government, key stakeholders and the entire industry to collaborate in unlocking Croatia’s geothermal potential.
- If Croatia wants geothermal energy in its power mix by 2030, it is essential that quotas for geothermal projects are announced this year. Without premium contracts, geothermal projects lack bankability and cannot move forward. The situation is similar across Europe -geothermal power plant projects are unfeasible without incentives and subsidies. Good examples include the State Aid programs in Germany (€252/MWh for 20 years) and Italy (€200/MWh for 25 years). Croatia must adopt a new National Energy and Climate Plan to ensure sufficient quotas for ongoing geothermal projects, as well as a new State Aid Program that includes Feed-in Premium tenders. ENNA Geo is passionately developing groundbreaking projects like Zagocha and Babina Greda, persistently working to unlock Croatia’s vast geothermal potential - Ivančić concluded by thanking the ENNA Group management and the young team of experts at ENNA Geo, led by colleague Boris Vidoš.
Great success for the ENNA Geo team – confirmed geothermal potential of the Slatina 2 exploitation field!
